MADRAS, India -- Top-seeded Carlos Moya won the Tata Open on Sunday, defeating defending champion Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5).
Moya, once ranked No. 1 but now No. 7, won the 15th title of his career. Paradorn was appearing in his third straight final at this event.
“This is an exciting start to the new season,” said Moya, the 1998 French Open champion. “It was an outstanding final, which none of us deserved to lose.”
Moya has changed the way he serves to ease the pressure on his back, which affected his performance in recent years. But he has won at least one ATP title in seven of the past eight years.
